Poetry: "Ignite"

“Dream a dream,” my mother would say,
“that brings the stars to your fingertips
“and sends dragons and demons away;
“that puts smiles on children’s lips
“and ignites your hope and dormant faith.”

“But that is hopeless,” I would answer,
“for where can such dreams be found?”
And with a smile, she would whisper,
“Open your mind and let go your doubt,”
as she presses a storybook to my heart.

I literally couldn't think of a title for this one. This one is half-assed, but at least it's better than just titling it "Dream", eh?

I'm often inspired to write poems by the most mundane things that end up having nothing to do with the poem itself. This one is inspired by Kubo's mother in "Kubo and the Two Strings", a visual treat of a stop motion movie y'all should check out :D

Poetry: "Can't"

This was just gonna be "What's wrong with living with your head in the clouds as long as your feet are planted on the ground?" on my FB status, but then I slipped and fell on my keyboard.

Pray tell, who says you can’t
Keep your feet on the ground
If you live with your head in the clouds?

Pray tell, who says you can’t
Grow your roots, fortified
If you sprout wings to take to the skies?

Tell them cowards who say “can’t”
Why choose one over the other
When you can choose to have it all rather?

If only you were just a little braver.
